Faith Relations was developed to continue the mission and work of Pensacola Habitat for Humanity and serves as an umbrella for faith-based outreach activities, including continued acts of service and community support programs throughout the year.
Faith Relations brings members of local congregations together to live out their faith in a new way. Together, we can help a family begin their journey to increased strength, stability and independence through education and affordable homeownership. Experience firsthand how God touches the hearts of new homeowners and the volunteers who work alongside them. There are many ways for members of your Faith Group to get involved both on and off the construction site.
Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, who were deeply influenced by their Christian faith. The idea for the organization was born at Koinonia Farm, a Christian community in Georgia that emphasized racial equality, shared resources, and servant leadership. The concept of “partnership housing,” where families in need work alongside volunteers to build their homes, emerged from these faith-based ideals.
Millard Fuller often spoke of Habitat’s “theology of the hammer,” which emphasizes putting faith into action. This philosophy invites people of all backgrounds to come together and build homes, motivated by the belief that everyone deserves a decent place to live. It means demonstrating love through tangible efforts — swinging a hammer, raising a wall, serving a neighbor.
While Habitat for Humanity is founded on Christian principles, it is intentionally ecumenical and inclusive. The organization works with people of all faiths — and of no faith — to eliminate substandard housing. Local affiliates often partner with churches, synagogues, mosques, and interfaith coalitions to recruit volunteers, fundraise, and support families.
